Quality Specialist

Job Overview
 

Motivated, detail oriented, quality conscious professional. The Quality Specialist will report to the Director of Quality and be responsible for overseeing and maintaining the release of goods into the market as well as the release of WIP from/to the various facilities. The Quality will also be responsible for the Distribution Center’s quality related activities.

The position requires high attention to detail as well as excellent organizational skills.
The position will be based onsite in Salt Lake City, UT.

Objectives and Responsibilities

  • Responsible for good documentation practices surveillance at the Distribution Center. (i.e., U.S. Bioterrorism Preparedness & FDA Food Defense Awareness)

  • Assist with cGMP training and adherence to cGMP compliance.

  • Complete required level of QC sampling and required load audit forms.

    • inspect incoming materials by confirming specifications.

    • conducting visual and sampling measurement tests

    • initial review for potential rejection and return of unacceptable materials.

  • Manages and maintains the release of goods into market as well as the release of WIP from/to the various facilities in collaboration with the Operations Department and Quality Unit.

  • Organize, file, and maintain controlled document files such as Certificates of Analysis, Sanitation logs, Pest Control records and other cGMP logs/documents.

  • Communicate with contract manufacturers to obtain Certificates of Analysis.

  • Act as Sanitation Supervisor as needed at the Distribution Center.

  • Authority for acceptance/rejection of finished products based on their compliance with current specifications and government standards.

 

  • Performs root-cause analysis, product quality / adverse event investigations, and other problem-solving activities to identify effective corrective actions and process improvement opportunities.

  • Evaluates and develops CAPAS when non-conformances are identified as well as at Contract manufacturing/packaging facilities.

  • Assists in the development of special projects and works in conjunction with distribution and other departments as needed.

  • Additional duties as needed.

     

  • Skills and Qualifications

  • 1 to 2 years in a Quality role preferred.

  • Knowledge and understanding of 21 CFR Part 111 (cGMP in Manufacturing, Packaging, Labeling, or Holding Operations for Dietary Supplements) and/or 21 CFR Part 117 (cGMP in Hazard Analysis, and Risk-Based Preventive Controls for Human Food)

  • Experience in a Quality Control environment strongly preferred.

  • Accurate data entry skills and Lab sample submissions

  • Detail oriented

  • Excellent interpersonal/communication skills

  • Experience with Office (Word/Excel)

  • Excellent written and verbal communication.

  • Ability to interact efficiently with a multidisciplinary team.

  • Ability to identify deficiencies and lead continuous improvement initiatives in cooperation with the other members of the quality team.
     

  • Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in food science, Biology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Nutrition, Exercise Science, or an applicable scientific discipline. 1-2 years’ Quality experience or more with nutritional supplements, dietary ingredients, food, or equivalent experience as it pertains to this role.
     

  • Physical Requirements:

  • This position primarily requires moderate physical activity in the warehouse area for overseeing inspection incoming shipments and moving and lifting boxes. It also may require ingestion of our products as part of our product event / consumer compliant internal investigation and therefore any food allergies should be made known. This position will also require some use of the computer/ keyboarding and sitting as well as use of other office equipment such as phone and copier.
